Going to any therapist for the first time can be nerve wracking. That’s why I created this page, to help you know a little more of what you can expect from your first session.
My office is in a large, clean office center located right off of Highway 74 in Matthews. You will walk in through the main door and (during business hours) be greeted by a receptionist. If I’m still meeting with another client when you arrive, you may take a seat in the waiting area.
If we are meeting at night, I will have you text me when you arrive so I can come open the door for you. Rest assured that after 5pm, the doors remain locked so you can feel safe and secure during our session together.
When you come into my office, you will see calming decor, plush couches, a fire place, pillows, and a bowl full of chocolate. I do everything I can to make my office atmosphere welcoming and relaxing for my clients. Take a tour of my office!
By the first session, you will have received a link for your client portal through my online practice management system. Through that link, you will fill out all of your paperwork and securely input your credit card information for session payment. If you have any questions about the paperwork, we can discuss them at the beginning of your first session.
After we review the paperwork, I’ll ask if you have any questions about me! I know that before you start telling me about your life, it’s important that you can trust me and it’s my hope that opening up myself for questions will help my clients to feel more comfortable.
Then, we’ll talk about you. This part is often the most nerve-wracking for first-time clients, but I can assure you that I know how to help. For couples, the first session will include valuable assessment to help me know where your strengths and weaknesses are so we can know the best place to start. For individuals, the first session usually involves me gathering more background information and focusing in on your goals.
The 1st session is typically a little longer than other sessions to include time for paperwork- closer to 60 minutes (instead of the normal 50 minutes). Once we’re done talking, we’ll set up another appointment and you’ll be on your way!
I hope this walk-through has been helpful! Feel free to explore the other tabs on my site or look through my blog. As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns and I’ll be happy to connect with you!
